L just asked me why I hadn’t told him he was gaining weight. His pants are suddenly tighter. The truth is, I hadn’t really noticed, but then I see him almost every day, so how would I?

I’ve gotten puffier lately, as a direct result of being really lazy about eating.

So I said, look- when I move in, we can work on eating better- more fresh vegetables and fruits, less macaroni and cheese with frozen broccoli.

And he responded, but babe, vegetables are expensive!

And he’s right, you know. It’s way cheaper to buy boxes of macaroni and cheese, and similar shit, than it is to buy fresh meat, vegetables and fruit. Imagine if you have to feed a family on a limited budget- you’re going to buy what’s cheapest.

I have the luxury to be able to budget for fresh items- and once I move, better access to farm fresh stuff, that is cheaper.

So we’ll be eating better, unfortunately, not everyone has that privilege.

I agree, fresh food is expensive, especially for Licky. But lately it seems that everything is expensive. Fresh food, boxed food, cat food, ALL food.

Maybe it’s me getting older (“I remember when a pack of Bubblicious was a quarter!”). I’ve also found the more you make the more you spend. I’ve been unemployed a couple of times in my life and each time I swore when I was gainfully employed again things would be so much easier. Not so much.
